5 Reasons to Watch The Originals Even If You Don't Watch Vampire Diaries

Klaus and Elijah on a Bench in The Vampire Diaries Spin-Off The Originals

There’s no question that us Vampire Diaries fans are chomping at the bit to see the upcoming backdoor pilot of spin-off The Originals on April 25. We’re hopeful it will get picked up for a full series. Some of the most badass immortals of all time living it up in New Orleans? Yes please.

But don’t worry if you’re not a TVD aficionado (yet)! We don’t think you need to be to enjoy this supernatural spin-off. That’s right, you don’t need to be up to date on your TVD trivia to get into it. Not convinced? Here are a few things about The Originals that we think will appeal to even the non-TVD watchers among us. Get on board!

1. These aren’t just any old vampires.
Guys, these are the Original vampires. Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Rebekah (Claire Holt) are the last remaining members of their 1000-year-old family, and they are the vampires from whence all other vampires came. They are the oldest, the strongest, the most merciless, and sometimes the craziest immortals out there. If a leading cast like that doesn’t appeal to you, we don’t know what will.

2. It’s gonna be a PARTY!
So, down in New Orleans, vampire Marcel is making it rain. From what we hear, “Marcel’s got people to look the other way while they have these crazy hedonistic parties and do whatever they want.” You had us at “hedonistic parties.”

3. Klaus, Unleashed
For those of you that don’t know OV Klaus, not only is he one of the most badass vampires walking the earth, he’s a vampire/werewolf hybrid. He’s also a snarky mo-fo, a secret romantic and a ruthless killer, and now he wants to be king of New Orleans. Where do we sign up?

4. NOLA Love
From the sound of things, the city of New Orleans is going to be a very important character in this show, and they’re gonna show it off right! Hotel Royal, Lafayette Cemetery, St. Louis Cathedral... the show is hitting all the greats. So even if you just want to soak in a little steamy New Orleans flavor, this would be the place to do it.

5. Sexy Times
If there’s one thing we know about The Vampire Diaries, it’s that they really know how to rock a love scene, and we’re pretty sure that ability is going to translate to this spin-off just fine. We don’t know who or when, but trust us, it’s gonna be good.
