will season 6 of the vampire diaries be it's last : Julie Plec says....

The Vampire Diaries may have just ended their fifth season with a dramatic cliffhanger less than 24 hours ago, but we’re already thinking ahead to Season 6 — and beyond. Will Season 6 be the show’s last season? When EW.com caught up with TVD mastermind Julie Plec, the EP had a very straightforward answer: “No.”
“It’s not on our radar yet,” she said. “You could ask 10 different people that question and you’d get 10 different answers, in terms of how long the life of the show is. Warner Bros. would say, “17 seasons!” And I think I would say, “Seven!” [Laughs] Presumably we’ll land somewhere closer to my wishes or theirs, depending on the circumstances.”
That’s a relief! Honestly, with so many loose ends to tie up in Mystic Falls, it’s hard to imagine TVD ending with Season 6. Plus, we just got Alaric back — and Enzo bumped to series regular — and we definitely need more than 22 episodes with them on our TV screens. But that’s not to say we want the CW vampire drama to go on for 17 seasons. (Sorry, Warner Bros.) With the ratings on the decline, Season 7 seems like the natural end for TVD. Damon and Elena will have, hopefully, been reunited, and Stefan will have found his happily ever after… with Caroline, perhaps?
One thing is for certain, however: contract negotiations. The cast of TVD is only signed through Season 6, which means that Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder will all have to sign new contracts towards the end of the sixth season — and possibly negotiate new salaries. We’ll have to wait and see how this all pans out, but we don’t see our favorite leaving the show anytime soon.
