The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Finale Scores Fan-Voted Awards

The Vampire Diaries came away with five accolades from Entertainment Weekly’s fifth annual Season Finale Awards. Which TVD moments did the fans vote for? Read on to find out!
TVD knows how to pull off a finale. Season 5’s season-ender was no exception — and the fans agree! Here are the five awards TVD snagged for Season 5, Episode 22 (“Home”):
Best (Presumed) Death or Exit: Damon dies to save Stefan, finds peace saying goodbye to Elena, then meets his mystery fate with Bonnie.
Most Unforgettable Line: “The fact that I get to die knowing that I was loved, not just by anyone, by you, Elena Gilbert, that's the epitome of a fulfilled life.... It was never gonna get any better than this. I peaked.''
Best Use of Music: Damon's long goodbye to Lucy Rose's ''Be Alright'' and Birdy's ''Wings.''
Best Final Shot: The fade to white as Damon and Bonnie hold hands and meet their fate.
Most Rewound Moment: Damon saying goodbye to Elena.
Director Chris Grismer dished on that heartbreaking farewell scene between Damon and Elena, specifically how difficult it was to film Elena’s side as she was supposed to be unable to see Damon. Apparently, Nina spent a lot of time acting without Ian in the frame: “To have her hair move [as though Damon was touching it], I had to have a green rod come in in the middle of the scene and move her hair, and she had to just keep in the moment, even though we were throwing all these curveballs at her,” Chris revealed, taking the romance out of it a bit. “She did a great job.” When does Nina ever not?
