The Vampire Diaries ratings rise for season 5 finale

Season 5 finale of The Vampire Diaries — Season 5, Episode 22 (“Home”) delivered the tears, the feels, and, thankfully, the ratings! How many people tuned in to see Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis) return to the land of the living and ugly cry as Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) seemingly get sucked into oblivion? Read on to find out!
According to Zap2it, the emotional season-ender garnered a 0.8 in the key 18-49 demo with 1.57 million viewers tuning in to see the Other Side crumble in on itself and the Travelers get bested by the Mystic Falls gang. That’s 14 percent up from last week’s slip in the ratings but down a whopping 27 percent from the Season 4 finale — Season 4, Episode 22 (“Graduation”).
It’s also important to note that the Season 5 finale of The Vampire Diaries was totally demolished in the ratings by the Season 1 finale of The Originals — Season 1, Episode 22 (“From a Cradle to a Grave”). It seems like the hybrid baby drama in New Orleans was more eye-catching than the Other Side drama back in Mystic Falls, in the tune of almost half a million viewers. It seems the spin-off has officially eclipsed its source material.
