Top 5 Vampire Diaries OMG Moments From Season 4, Episode 21

Damon and Elena in Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 21: “She’s Come Undone!”

Damon and Stefan Have Ways of Making You Talk
Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) made it clear at the tail-end of last week’s episode that had no intention of giving up on Elena (Nina Dobrev). While this is totally romantic and proof of their loyalty, in this episode their methods definitely come under scrutiny. Keeping Elena locked in a massive safe? Exposing her to the sun? Even with a fire extinguisher nearby, we have it good authority that nothing says “I love you” as much as not setting your significant other en fuego.

If these modes of torturing the humanity back into Elena didn’t raise your eyebrows, what about their final solution? You know the situation’s desperate when you’re calling in Katherine (Nina Dobrev), harbinger of all that is not-awesome, to solve things. Plus, Kat with her hand inside Elena’s chest? There’s hurting yourself and then there’s hurting yourself, doppelganger-style.

Silas Has Fun at Work
We’ve seen Silas’s face, and verily, it is nasty. You almost can’t blame him for using the images people’s loved ones to fool folks. Almost. We’ve seen Silas adopt different personas before. He fooled even Elijah (Daniel Gillies) when he disguised himself as Rebekah (Claire Holt).

This week, he took his disguises into overdrive. In his mission to find Bonnie (Kat Graham) before the new moon, Silas pulled out the stops. He needed to ensure she was ready and willing to drop the veil. In short order, he toyed with Caroline (Candice Accola), disguising himself as Klaus (Joseph Morgan), as Matt (Zach Roerig), and then as Sheriff Forbes. Silas has got to go, before the whole town is left paranoid about who they’re actually talking to.

Matt Plays Possum
Things are not easy for Matt Donovan. That’s been pretty exceptionally clear this season. Sure, every character has undergone their fair share of trauma, but Matt’s the only one who has been left in the dust with only his humanity to console him.

To that end, it was great to see him rally this episode, putting Rebekah firmly in line and admitting that he feel trapped, and that’s flunking his senior year. This really inspired Caroline to be the ardent supporter he needs, and it made Rebekah reevaluate the way she tries to connect with people. Matt officially reminded the other supernaturals of his existence and importance as an ally when he allowed Damon to “kill” him in a bid to trigger Elena’s emotional response. Sure, he was wearing the Gilbert ring to protect him, but man was it worth it to see Elena’s eyes fill with tears. Welcome back, Matt!

Sheriff Forbes’ Night In
As the only parental figure we’ve seen lately (discounting Bonnie’s dad and mom who are presumably in hiding from her until she stops using Expression), Sheriff Forbes has long held a place in our hearts. She’s stood by Caroline through thick and thin, even though it goes against everything she was taught as a member of one of the founding families and an active participant of the council.

She’s definitely Caroline’s achilles heel, especially as Caroline begins to pull away from the things that connect her to the human world, like high school. When Silas enters Caroline’s home and knocks out the good lady Sheriff, there were some tense moments where it seemed like we’d heard the last of Mama Forbes. As she lay bleeding and unconscious on the floor, we grappled with the idea that she was gone forever. When Caroline managed to bring her back, our jaws dropped. Sheriff Forbes lives to fight another day!

An Unusual Alliance
Katherine has never been short of enemies; with Elena’s proclamation that she will kill her doppelganger, that list just got a little bit longer. But it seems like Elena’s quest is bound to be complicated — and by Bonnie of all people!

Having emerged from hiding from Silas, Bonnie is putting a plan into action. Presumably this plan will kill Silas without connecting the world of the living with the world of the dead. It’s not like Katherine to do the right thing for the sake of doing the right thing, and this is no exception. She’s agreed to help Bonnie, but only because of the power and freedom Bonnie promises her. A strange duo is born!
