The Vampire Diaries’ Kat Graham: Fans Saved Her From Racist Bullies
Teenage witch Bonnie Bennett has fought (more than) her fair share of battles on The Vampire Diaries, against hybrids, murder-y vampires, manipulative professors with crazy eyes, and more. But actress Kat Graham has faced her own real-life troubles. She was cyber-bullied in a pretty serious way.
"I had racially prejudiced comments directed at me on different blogs,” Kat told Seventeen. “People think that just because you're in the spotlight you're fair game. It's hard, and I don't think you're ready at any age for it.”
How horrible. Luckily, Kat is every bit as tough as her onscreen alter ego Bonnie, and she had a great support system to help her fight back. “I have some great fans who got me through it,” she said of her bullying ordeal.
We totally agree with Kat that you’re never ready for that sort of attack, but more than anything else we dig her take-no-prisoners attitude in
fighting back when it comes to this sort of behavior. “When you get bullied, you automatically think that you're the reason why you're getting bullied,” she said. “The reality is, it's about them, not you...”
Kat’s a tough lady, and she’s got the best back-up an actress could ask for. Who needs witchy migraines when you have Vampire Diaries fans on your side?
