Top 5 Vampire Diaries OMG Moments From Season 4, Episode 17

Lexi and Damon Make a Pact in Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 17: “Because the Night”

Damon and Lexi’s Little Secret
It’s always awesome to see Lexi — even if it’s just in memories. New York in the 1970s was the perfect place to see everybody’s favorite ripper-curing party girl. We know that she and Stefan (Paul Wesley) had a special relationship, and that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) murdering her is one of the big specters in their past — but Lexi helping Damon?!

It turns out that with his emotions firmly in the “off” position, rumors of ‘70s Damon’s carefree ways had reached Stefan’s ears in Mystic Falls. Takes a Ripper to know a Ripper. Lexi is there to do the dirty work of making Damon feel again — and does he ever. Turns out that in an effort to pull one over on Lexi, he tricks her into sleeping with him (oh what a trick!) and then reveals he doesn’t care for her at all. Sure, it was down right dirty of Damon to pull that junk — but hey, hate is an emotion, and he was certainly feeling it!

Bonnie Wakes Up
It’s not exactly news that Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) hasn’t been in the best place as of late. The death of her former love and always friend Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), her grams being tortured by the spirits, the whole practicing an evil form of magic that requires murder at the behest of an evil immortal witch thing — yeah, it’s been rough.

The good news is that it looks like Bonnie is coming out the other side and will no longer be treated like she is totally nuts by her friends. The bad news... she doesn’t remember anything after the moment she and Jeremy discovered Silas’s grave! That means in addition to having to grapple with the news that the gates of hell are about to open and that she is indirectly responsible for the death of entire coven, she is going to have suffer her grief over Jeremy’s death all over again.

Caroline Gets Stabby
One of Caroline’s (Candice Accola) best traits is her do-anything attitude when it comes to the people she loves. She almost always uses this passion for good, even if it means sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong. But Caroline’s been the opposite of clear-headed since Tyler’s (Michael Trevino) permanent departure became clear. Exhibit A: drinking someone else’s day-old beer cup.

When she, Klaus (Joseph Morgan), and Stefan make it to the clearing where Bonnie is planning to kill all the witches called to cleanse her, Vampire Barbie makes a possibly devastating decision. While the guys grapple with whether or not to let Bonnie die and thus keep Silas’s scheme from coming to fruition, Caroline just goes for it — turning the knife Asia would use against Bonnie back against her. Because the witches are all joined, Asia’s death has a domino effect, turning Caroline’s heroic act into mass murder.

Elena and Rebekah Join Forces
Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) have never seen eye to eye. Elena has no intention of things changing now that she’s literally carefree. Rebekah’s initially on the same page, viewing Elena as one more annoying vampire in the way of her getting what she wants more than anything else: the cure.

All this makes the end of the episode that much more gasp-inducing! Although Elena tells Rebekah she can handle Damon on her own, it’s Rebekah who shows up at the eleventh hour, breaking Damon’s neck so that the girls can take off on their own Romy and Michele-style cure hunt. It’s like a shampoo commercial, starring vampires.

Klaus and Silas Are in League
It should be no surprise to anyone that Klaus has and always will play dirty. While his sister wants to become human more than anything else, humanity is the one thing Klaus truly fears. After all, mortals do one thing he can’t — they die.

At the end of the episode, when Silas appears and Klaus makes it clear that he paved the way for Silas’s final massacre it’s a shock, but not a surprise. The real twist comes when Silas, through the threat of white-oak-induced death, enlists Klaus as his go-to guy. Someone bossing Klaus around? OMG.
