While we’re totally stoked about The Originals spinoff premiering in the fall, it also means we’ll be parting ways with several key characters on The Vampire Diaries for Season 5.
Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), Rebekah (Claire Holt), and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) are all slated to make New Orleans their home, leaving Mystic Falls with some big shoes to fill.
So will we be seeing some new blood (pun definitely intended) in The Vampire Diaries Season 5?
According to Julie Plec, with many of the lead characters heading off to college there will be plenty of opportunity for some fresh faces to join the mix.
“We’re definitely going to be entering an entire new world at Whitmore College, so we’ll get to meet new friends and new enemies,” Julie told TVLine.
Julie added fans should be prepared for “new romantic interests for some of our characters” in Season 5.
We’re guessing that could mean a love interest for a newly resurrected Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), seeing as Bonnie (Kat Graham) is stuck as a ghost on the other side of the veil.
Or perhaps we’ll see Tyler (Michael Trevino) vy for Caroline’s (Candice Accola) affections with a new college crush. Even the newly human Katherine (Nina Dobrev) might set her sights on a nice young man now that she has her mortality to mull over. And when Matt (Zach Roerig) returns from his epic road trip with Rebekah, he could be ready for a real relationship with a human girl.
If (or when) Stefan (Paul Wesley) makes it out of the submerged safe Silas trapped him in, he could potentially get a new lady love since Elena (Nina Dobrev) has chosen to be with Damon (Ian Somerhalder). We’re kind of doubting Silas, as Stefan’s doppelganger, will be charming any girls with his ruthless ways.
