The role of Christian Grey in the upcoming "Fifty Shades of Grey" is already cast in the minds of many fans yet his counterpart, the innocent and sexy Ana Steele has not garnered a clear favorite. Fans are unsure of who they want to see opposite Ian Somerhalder or Henry Cavill, probably because every woman fantasizes she is going to be cast. The role of Ana Steele will therefore be a tough one to fill. The woman will have to be relatable and relatively unknown while still possessing the acting chops to pull off the hefty part. On Feb 4 Rooney Mara made news by mentioning the term "shades of grey" in an interview with Newsweek. Fans are wondering if this was her way of getting noticed for the part of Ana Steele.
"I’m interested in the duality of people. I have a lot of darkness and frenetic energy inside myself, so it’s easier for me to portray people with shades of gray.” -Rooney Mara
Rooney Mara, 27, has been included in a few lists of actresses to play Ana Steele, including a mention as far back as May 2012 by College Candy. The article recognized she would be a unique option stating, "she would be an amazing and unexpected choice. Mara could play both sides of Steele and seems comfortable with edgy subjects." Although many fans believe she is not right, including a commenter on Wetpaint who believes, "she doesn't have the right vibe to me," Mara has some qualities that could make her believable in the role. Check out this list which points out the arguments on both sides of the Rooney Mara debate.
