A Vampire Diaries Obituary For Jeremy Gilbert

Jeremy Thinks Angsty Thoughts in The Vampire Diaries Season 3, Episode 10:

Jeremy Gilbert, a Mystic Falls High School student, died on Thursday, in Mystic Falls, VA. He was 17.

The cause of death was smoke inhalation from a fire that destroyed the Gilbert house at 1904 Floyd Street. No one else was injured in the blaze.

Jeremy was a member of the Comics Club at Mystic Falls High and an avid drawer. “His sketches showed great promise, despite their dark subject matter,” said Margaret Vector, the school’s art teacher. “I believe with more discipline, he could’ve truly honed his talents.” Jeremy also excelled in history and was close to Alaric Saltzman before the teacher’s untimely death.

Jeremy was born here in Mystic Falls, to Miranda and Dr. Grayson Gilbert. After their deaths from a car crash, Miranda’s sister, Jenna Sommers, came to care for Jeremy and his sister, Elena. Ms. Sommers also recently passed away.

Patrons of the Mystic Grill may remember Jeremy as the busboy who cleaned their tables. “He was so much more than that,” said his co-worker Matt Donovan. “Over the years, he became my best friend. In this town, he was one of the few humans — people — I could count on.”

Jeremy is survived by his sister Elena. She couldn’t be reached for comment, but a spokesperson on her behalf released the following statement: “Jeremy Gilbert was a brave and selfless person. We are so proud of the person he became. In his last few years of life, he dedicated himself to helping this town, his family, and his friends. Jeremy will be greatly missed.”

There are no details on a memorial service for Jeremy, though Bonnie Bennett, another Mystic Falls High School student, was recently seen having a candlelight vigil near the school’s graffiti-covered wall.
