Does Klaus Become Good? Vampire Diaries Fan Question of the Day

Klaus in The Vampire Diaries Season 4

In case you were wondering, yes — we do read the emails you send about The Vampire Diaries, and we try to answer them. As a matter of fact, we’re going to take up one question asked by many inquiring fans: Does Klaus (Joseph Morgan) become good?

While he’s definitely a good piece of eye-candy, we’re sure you’re actually wondering if he becomes good, as in benevolent and not as in hunky. Alright, let’s try this again.
In The Vampire Diaries books, Klaus stayed evil, right to the end. But wait, you’re saying. Maybe the TV show is different. In Season 4, Episode 13, “Into the Wild,” Klaus saved Caroline (Candice Accola). Touché — only his werewolf venom was the reason she needed to guzzle his blood in the first place.
TVD has been on a “relative evil” kick as of late. Rebekah (Claire Holt) pointed out that the things she does are no worse than the lengths Elena (Nina Dobrev) goes to for her loved ones — and the Original sister is simply trying to protect her family, as well. But it’s hard to forget that Klaus killed Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning) simply so he could tap into his full hybrid potential.
Back in 2011, Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore) told Entertainment Weekly, “I don’t think Klaus is in any danger of ever becoming a good guy. He will either stick around as a villain for quite a while or he’ll be sent out with a big bang. I don’t think we’ll ever convert Klaus into like one of the guys in Mystic Falls who works at the Mystic Grill flipping burgers. That would be a big mistake. He needs to be that big dark entity.”
Klaus is headed out of town for the backdoor pilot of The Originals spin-off. In New Orleans, he finds himself in need of redemption.
Maybe the OV does something so horrible that it does fundamentally change him, and the spin-off follows his struggles to be a better hybrid. We shudder to think what that personality-altering deed might be, though.
