'50 Shades of Grey' Movie: Ian Somerhalder Talks to TMZ About Playing Christian Grey

50 Shades of Grey movie favorite Ian Somerhalder was recently approached by TMZ and asked if he would be playing Christian Grey in the upcoming movie based on E. L. James' popular erotic novel.
As shown in the video below, the actor doesn't say much, but his short and sweet answer is promising. He simply says, "You never know."
Harvey Levin translates his actor-speak by saying, "That sounds like a yes."
Harvey and the TMZ staff then have a discussion about who else is being considered for the 50 Shades film, and Matt Bomer's name is mentioned. Harvey says that he thinks that Matt would do the movie, and a male staffer says that Bomer is a controversial choice because he's gay.
However, Matt certainly isn't a controversial choice as far as Fifty fans are concerned—he consistently tops fan polls, and the only person who has made a really big deal out of his sexual orientation seems to be American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis. He started the whole controversy by claiming that Matt is too gay to play Christian Grey.
However, it looks like at least one female 50 Shades of Grey fan agrees with Ellis. After Harvey argues that straight actors play gay characters all of the time in movies, one of his female staff members argues that a straight actor would be a better pick to play the role of Christian "because this one is so closely associated with straight female sexuality." Harvey Levin then says that he still wouldn't care if two straight guys were cast as gay characters in a movie with similar themes, and his staff jokes that this is because he's attracted to straight men.
This is precisely why it's silly to argue against casting Bomer as Christian Grey. His female fans know that he's gay, but they're obviously still attracted to him and want to see him in the 50 Shades film. If someone is sexy, it doesn't matter what their sexual orientation is—people of the same sex and the opposite sex will like to look at them.
So do you think that Matt Bomer's sexual orientation puts him at a disadvantage, and do you think that Ian Somerhalder's response to TMZ indicates that he might be in talks to play Christian?
