Despite all the famous names Hollywood names swirling around the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey film adaptation, author EL James has said that casting decisions are nowhere near being made. But did she make her own preference for who she wants to play Christian Grey known on Twitter — and is it Ian Somerhalder?!
James retweeted a pic of The Vampire Diaries star in full smolder, accompanied by a fitting quote from Fifty Shades: “Masks on,” Christian grins, and as he dons his simple black mask, my prince becomes something darker, more sensual.” She also retweeted the photo’s equally smoldering caption: “All I can see of his face is his beautiful chiseled mouth and strong jaw. #FiftyShadesDarker.”
TVD fans should not be at all surprised to hear that the beautiful chiseled mouth and strong jaw belong to Ian, but they should be excited that James thinks he fits the part. Ian has made his interest in the sexy novel’s film adaptation clear, and James has made no secret that she’s a Vampire Diaries fan herself.
In our dream world, this makes his casting as Christian Grey a no brainer, but sadly, James has said in the past that she doesn’t think she’ll have much say in the final decision. Matt Bomer, Alex Pettyfer and Henry Cavill are some of the other names being bandied about for Christian, so these casting directors will have their work cut out for them.
But let’s get real: Now that Ryan Gosling is out, Ian has to be a lock, right? Well, maybe not, but at least he looks great in a mask, and a vote of approval from the Fifty Shades author certainly can’t hurt his chances.
