Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev recently braved the cold for an Easter weekend visit with Nina’s family in Toronto, and these Vampire Diaries stars managed to warm our hearts during their trip way up north!
Before they headed out, Ian and Nina shared a big surprise for one special fan. In a video, the real life couple told 14-year-old Kayla Baker, a Vampire Diaries lover in need of a lung transplant, that they’d be paying her a visit on Saturday.
“We know you watch the show,” Nina said in her video. “And we know about you, too. We’ve been following you.” Then she told Kayla, “Elena will never be as strong as you... Or as courageous.” Ian agreed, “Can’t compare.”
And of course, they made good on their promise! Nina and Ian spent Saturday with Kayla, and from the grin on her face as the threesome took some adorable photos, it looks like she enjoyed every second of it. (Duh, she was holding Ian’s hand!)
But their support didn’t end there. Soon after the visit, Nina tweeted this plea for Kayla.
“Id like to ask everyone who reads this to send out positive energy to @Kayla_0507 tonight,” she wrote. “Just take one moment of your time to think of her and put it out there in the universe. Think happy thoughts and smile :) The secret.. We can make anything happen.”
The next day, Ian added his voice to the mix, and tweeted, “Support @Kayla_0507 & her dream to run w/ the Run aLung—it takes place May 11 in Cambridge on Bob McMullen trail!”
And just hours ago, Nina tweeted again with some very, very good news!
“Sending congratulations to @kayla_0507 and her family,” she wrote. “We all secreted this. Her life has been saved. I'm smiling ear to ear.”
Along with her happy words, Nina shared a photo of a message posted to the Facebook page “New Lungs For Kayla” by her mother, Susan Tremblett. At 1:30am today, Kayla was taken into the OR, and will receive a new left lung from a donor.
And now we’re smiling from ear to ear too! It took a lot of people to make this happen, of course, but it’s great to see these vamps using their celebrity superpowers for good.
