Ian Somerhalder is one socially-conscious guy. When the Vampire Diaries star isn’t busy trying to save the planet or its animals, he is using it to empower and educate youth. This week, that comes in the form of promoting the Snap2Live belt, a seatbelt-inspired belt that promotes road safety — and looks cool while doing it. Check out Ian sporting one of the signature belts...
“#1 Killer of Youth = Road Crashes, join me and my brother @ernestoarguello and @Snap2Live and belt up with me,” Ian tweeted yesterday, along with a photo of himself next to Snap2Live founder and social entrepreneur Ernesto Arguello. In the photo, the two are hanging together on a boat and Ernesto is pointing at Ian’s hips, which — yes — are donning a purple Snap2Live belt.
Ernesto created the Snap2Live belt as a way to spread awareness of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety upon hearing that road accidents are the leading cause of youth death around the world. Seventy percent of the Snap2Live profits go to the Road Safety Fund, whose mission is: “To invest in the preventative measures that are proven to reduce the risk or severity of road injury. Invest in the people and the skills that can provide sustainable paths to safety.” According to the fund, every six seconds, someone is killed or seriously injured in a road accident. Ninety percent of those casualties happen in developing countries, and many of them are children.
The Snap2Live belt is available in one-size-fits-all in a variety of colors (including Ian’s purple). They cost $30 on the Snap2Live site.
