What goes well with an entirely new personality? A completely different look, of course. In The Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 17, “Because the Night,” we’ll see a whole new Elena (Nina Dobrev). (Not to be confused with the episode before that, in which we’ll see a whole lot of the new vampire when she struts around naked in front of the brothers Salvatore.)
According to spoilers from Entertainment Weekly, Elena’s pink-streaked hair and sassy new threads are a calculated move. The baby bloodsucker has been a bit more daring, fashion-wise, since getting her own set of fangs, says Julie Plec.
Have you been missing the former human’s henleys? Well, they’re gone. “I said to the wardrobe people and Nina [Dobrev], ‘We’re burning everything. So if there are one or two things that you’re damn sure you want to keep, she better be wearing them when she walks out the door.’ I think Nina chose a jacket and a pair of boots and we called it a day,” Julie tells EW.
“She had a very, very, very specific and safe style for the first three seasons, and this year, we evolved it a little bit when she became a vampire and had a little more freedom in her choices,” she continues. “But now we literally packed up all her clothes and put them into storage and bought her a new wardrobe.”
Apparently turning off her emotions makes Elena want to be a little edgier with her clothing. “It’s just a little hipper, a little more contemporary — more skirts and belts and accessories, and she gets a great new haircut in two episodes and has a little fun with hair color. It’s been really fun to give her a new attitude,” Julie teases.
