How awesome are The Vampire Diaries fans? Let us count the ways! Diehard lovers of all things Damon, Elena and Stefan will be pleased to know they absolutely nuked every other show on television last week in the social media world!
According to The CW, The Vampire Diaries “generated over 865,000 social interactions” on Twitter, Facebook, GetGlue and Viggle last week. TVD was so hot last week, Trendrr.TV says our favorite vampires and friends even outdid number one reality TV juggernaut American Idol 2013 right out of the top spot! Also left in the dust were such huge hits as Glee, The Simpsons and Family Guy. Amazing! Even more so when you consider the ratings for the TVD episode "Catch Me If You Can” on Thursday were only 2.71 million viewers versus 15.65 million for American Idol in the same time slot.
Part of the amazing success, no doubt, was brought about by a hugely successful live tweeting session during the January 24th episode by cast members (Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Kat Graham, Zach Roerig) and Claire Holt. Executive Producer Julie Plec also joined in on the fun. The #TVDparty hashtag was all the rage on Twitter at show time! In fact, the hashtag actually made it into Twitter's Top 10 Trending Topics a number of times over the course of the evening.
Will TVD manage to blow American Idol 2013 and the rest of the competition out of the water again this week on social media? Well, contribute to the count by letting us know what you think on our The Vampire Diaries Facebook page!
