SPOILER! Vampire Diaries Spoilers: Colin Ferguson Cast as Season 6 Villain
We just got a million times more excited for Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries — and we were already hotly anticipating the next installments of the supernatural drama. TVD has just cast the professionally amiable Colin Ferguson as a villain in the upcoming season. Who will the Eureka alum be playing? Read on to find out!
According to TV Guide, Colin — who is best known for his role as Sheriff Jack Carter on Syfy’s Eureka — has been cast in the role of Tripp, “a strong and disciplined head of a community militia and surrogate father to his young trainees who will do anything to protect his town.” Tripp will first appear in the Season 6 premiere, which you may recall takes place after a “substantial time jump” from the Season 5 finale. Basically, Tripp seems to have already built a resistance up in the now magic-less Mystic Falls. Though, given that no supernatural characters can cross the town border without dying, we’re not exactly sure against whom this militia is defending...
Guys, we’re excited about this announcement on so many levels. One of the weak points of Season 5 was the lack of compelling villain. TVD tried out a few, but none of them really stuck. This Tripp character sounds like he may have a relatable motivation — i.e. the protection of a town that has been continually victimized by the supernatural element in the past few years (if not arguably centuries). As an experienced and enigmatic actor, we know that Colin will make this villain more than just a two-dimensional obstacle for our heroes, and we’re exciting to see the Mystic Falls community as integral to the TVDnarrative again. TVD is at its best when we care about its villains, as well as its heroes. We think this show may have just checked something off of our Season 6 wish list!
