If TV’s your passion, and The Vampire Diaries is on the top of your list, then your eyes and ears have been turned all weekend towards the southwest, where the the ATX Television Festival was underway. Your ears were probably tingling today in particular, as Showrunner, Producer, and general TVD maven- Julie Plec and cast member Arielle Kebbel joined fans and bloggers alike for a very special screening an a juicy Q&A session at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.
We have so many questions about where the show is headed, and we know we aren’t alone — you are right there with us! One of the big ones on everybody’s mind is about the future of Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice Accola)’s friendship. They have always been so close, acting as the other’s confidant and proverbial pillar of strength and support as each vamp went through hard times.
During Lexi’s return at the end of this season’s epic finale, she went so far as to intimate that there might be something more than JUST friendship in store for Caroline and Stefan down the road.
Julie admitted that the friendship is important to both parties but was otherwise cagey on the subject. “It was a big season for Lexi,” said Julie. “ And knowing that [she] would have this presence throughout the season in flashbacks, I always look at Caroline and Stefan and think of her as his her new Lexi.”Julie went on to discuss how the chemistry between the two characters really began to develop during season two. It was then she realized that Stefan had found another “soul friend.” During season two, this became apparent, between their heartfelt talks and their playful banter. “They are so charming together,” said Julie. Obviously we agree!
