The Vampire Diaries Cast Tweets Sadness Over Oklahoma Tornadoes
On Monday afternoon, a two-mile-wide tornado struck several suburban areas outside Oklahoma city. While early reports suggested as many as 51 people were killed, CNN’s most recent story says the number was adjusted down to 24, including nine children.
In addition, the storm left devastation in its wake, leveling buildings and leaving piles of debris. The images of the destruction have shocked many, including the cast of The Vampire Diarie. Several of the actors tweeted their sadness, thoughts, and prayers to those affected.
Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert), Kat Graham (Bonnie Bennett), Sara Canning (Jenna Sommers), and Arielle Kebbel (Lexi) all took to Twitter to express their condolences.
Nina wrote, “Sending my thoughts and prayers to those in Oklahoma at this time. This tornado which was estimated to be 2 miles wide. Has devastated many. Destroying homes, elementary schools + lives. My heart goes out to you all. PLS-Go to RYOT to help-http://say.ly/eHk5RUm.”
RYOT is a news site where every story includes a link that allows readers to donate to a cause connected to the subject matter. For example, the article Nina linked to is collecting money for the tornado victims. Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore), Nina’s co-star and ex-boyfriend, sits on the site’s advisory board.
“Hey guys, let's send our thoughts and prayers to everyone in Oklahoma. #PrayForOklahoma #staystrong,” Kat tweeted, showing her support for the victims. Sara was equally concerned for those in the storm’s path, writing, “Shocked by footage from Oklahoma. Prayers for all in the horrifying path of damage.”
Arielle tweeted, “Many prayers 2 those that experienced the Oklahoma tornado,” and then added information about how her followers can help: “Moore Tornado victims: Text STORM 80888 for Salvation Army, REDCROSS text 90999 or FOOD text 32333 for 10$ donations. Pls help if you can!”
If you want to get involved, you can follow Arielle’s advice or go to the Red Cross’s site to donate online, or donate by phone at 1-800-RED CROSS.
