Can Bonnie Be Good on Vampire Diaries After Everything That’s Happened?

Bonnie Is Team Stelena

To say life has been difficult for Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham), Mystic Falls’ resident witch on The Vampire Diaries, would be putting it mildly. In fact, saying it’s been almost impossibly sad and fraught with challenges wouldn’t even be putting too fine a point on it.

Sure, Bonnie has been gifted with extraordinary powers and abilities. She is also fortunate to have such a close-knit group of friends who understand her situation. It’s a good thing she has them too, because if you look at her life so far — would your average friendless non-all-powerful human would be able to keep going?

Bonnie lost her Grams as they battled against evil. Yes, it was a tragedy, and you’d think frankly nothing else involving her Grams would rival it. You’d be wrong —  because then Bonnie angered the spirits and they took it out on her dead grandmother. Can you say, less than awesome?

Let’s not forget how things went when she was reunited with her mother! Not only did she learn that mom had reared a son after abandoning her, but that her mother had been forced to leave Bonnie or risk death or worse for those she loved after binding Mikael in his grave. Then, just when we’d hoped everything was going to work out for these two — Damon (Ian Somerhalder) goes ahead and kills Bonnie’s mom while she’s got blood in her system, turning her into what she’d always hated the most — a vampire.

The most recent tragedy in Bonnie’s life, and how she reacts to it, is the dividing line between Bonnie of the past, and Bonnie of the future. While still under evil Silas’ thrall and practicing Expression, a questionable form of magic, Bonnie handled Jeremy Gilbert’s death in a vein best described as, well, downright evil.

Although once freed from his power, and revealed to have no memory of doing things like offering up twelve witches as a blood sacrifice, the Bonnie under Silas’s power could be indicative of which way she’ll go in the future. With so much power, can Bonnie stay good? With so many wrongs done to her and those she loved, will crack under the pressure or, with the guidance of her friends will she rally and be the Good Witch once more. Only time will tell.
