The Vampire Diaries Season 5: What Will It Be Like Without the Originals? Speculation
In case you hadn’t heard the news, The Vampire Diaries may be getting a spin-off titled The Originals. The backdoor pilot will air April 25, and The CW will then decide whether to make it into a full series.
If that happens, Joseph Morgan (Klaus), Daniel Gillies (Elijah), and Claire Holt (Rebekah) will all appear on the new show. That’s great news for fans of the Original family — they’ll get more screen time and we’ll learn much more about the deadly vamps.
However, Mystic Falls will suddenly seem pretty empty without the often evil bloodsuckers. If Stefan (Paul Wesley), Elena (Nina Dobrev), Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and the rest don’t have to feud with, run from, and negotiate with the Originals, how will they spend their days?
Well, some of them should be off to college. According to executive producer Julie Plec, the gang will graduate from high school this year. Maybe some characters will move beyond the boundaries of Mystic Falls — whether or not they go on to higher education.
With Klaus, Bex, and Elijah off to New Orleans, perhaps the town will be safe for Caroline (Candice Accola) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) again? At least the murder rates should drop a bit!
But something tells us Mystic Falls won’t be all unicorns and butterflies without the ancient vampires. Surely some other big bad will replace them. Maybe Silas sticks around? (We’d get far away from him if we were the Originals, too!) Or perhaps the group will still be dealing with whatever aftermath the ancient witch unleashes upon the world.
There will definitely be some big (and stylish) shoes to fill if The Originals becomes a reality, but we will never complain about having double the vampires in our weekly schedule. And let’s not forget: There are always crossovers!
